Starting February 2026, all short-range equipment commercialized in Chile must include a specific QR code on its packaging. This is one of the most significant innovations of SUBTEL Resolution 737.
With 21 years of experience in SUBTEL certification, at Certificación Telecom we are among the first to implement the compliant QR code system.
Deadline: February 22, 2026. From this date, all WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, RFID and similar equipment must have the mandatory QR code.
Why mandatory QR codes?
Resolution 737 marks a radical change in how SUBTEL regulates short-range equipment.
System benefits
- Digital traceability: SUBTEL can inspect by scanning the QR
- Accessible information: Consumers access technical data
- Simplified process: No formal certification required
- Dynamic updating: Information can be updated without repackaging
Equipment requiring QR code
- WiFi equipment: routers, access points, IoT devices
- Bluetooth equipment: headphones, speakers, wearables
- Zigbee equipment: sensors, home automation
- RFID equipment: readers and active tags
- Other ISM protocols: Z-Wave, Thread, LoRa, NFC
Exception: Medical devices (sections g and h) require traditional certification.
Official technical specifications
| Specification | Official requirement |
|---|---|
| Minimum size | 1 cm × 1 cm |
| Error correction | Level H (30%) |
| Frames | Not allowed |
| Model | Model 2 (standard QR) |
| Contrast | High (readable by any device) |
| Modules | Squares (standard) |
Note: These are the official specifications from Resolution 737 as modified by Resolution 2219. For printing we recommend 2 cm × 2 cm for better readability.
Mandatory webpage content
The QR must link to page with:
- Equipment info: Brand, model, description
- RF specifications: Frequency, power, EIRP, protocol
- Responsible party: Name, RUT, Chile address, contact
- Documentation: Declaration of conformity, certificates, test report
- Regulatory info: Reference to Resolution 737
QR code location (Updated Resolution 2219)
Resolution 2219 added flexibility for QR code placement:
Placement options (in order of preference)
- Exterior packaging (preferred) - In a visible location on the box
- Directly on the device - If packaging is not feasible
- Paper documentation - Manual, warranty, or other accompanying documents
Important: This flexibility was added by Resolution 2219 to accommodate products without individual packaging, OEM components, and industrial equipment.
Additional requirements
- QR must be visible in all physical or virtual spaces where the product is displayed
- Includes e-commerce, physical stores, and advertising materials
- Must not interfere with visibility of other marks
Consequences of not including QR
- Fines: Up to 1,000 UTM (~$60 million CLP)
- Seizure: Confiscation of equipment
- Prohibition: Market withdrawal
