Why does a Smart TV need a SUBTEL QR?
Modern smart televisions incorporate WiFi and Bluetooth modules as standard, and some newer models add Matter compatibility for smart home ecosystem integration. All these wireless modules operate in short-range frequency bands regulated by SUBTEL Resolution 1985. Since February 22, 2026, Resolution 737 requires every Smart TV sold in Chile to carry a QR code on its packaging linking to a public page with technical specifications of its wireless modules, the importer or Chilean representative's data, and the reference to the accredited laboratory test report. This requirement applies to both major international brands and lesser-known TV brands imported from China or other markets.

A current Smart TV typically includes dual-band WiFi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) for content streaming and updates, and Bluetooth for connecting remote controls, soundbars, and wireless headphones. Premium models from brands like Samsung, LG, and Sony may also incorporate WiFi 6 or WiFi 6E, extending to the 6 GHz band. Televisions compatible with the Matter protocol use Thread or WiFi as a transport layer, which may add an additional module to declare. Each of these modules must be individually documented on the compliance page, with their frequency bands and maximum power levels per Chilean regulations. Importers must verify the exact specifications of the model they are bringing into the country, as regional variants may differ in their radio modules.

- Does my imported Smart TV need a SUBTEL QR?
- Yes. Every smart television sold in Chile that incorporates WiFi, Bluetooth, or any other short-range wireless technology must include a QR code on its packaging per Resolution 737. This applies to all brands and models without exception.
- Does a non-Smart TV also need a QR?
- Only if it incorporates a short-range wireless module. An analog or basic television without WiFi or Bluetooth does not require the SUBTEL QR. However, most modern televisions, even budget models, already include at least WiFi and Bluetooth.
- Where does the SUBTEL QR go on a television?
- The QR must be placed on the television's retail packaging. Given the size of TV boxes, Resolution 2219 allows flexibility in exact placement, but it must be visible and scannable. It can also be included in documentation inside the box.
- Does each screen size need its own QR?
- It depends. If different sizes of the same model share the same radio module (same internal model number for the WiFi/BT board), they can share the compliance page. If size variants use different radio hardware, each one needs its own QR.
