The Problem: Your Product May Be Delisted
If you received an email from Falabella, MercadoLibre, Ripley, Paris, Lider, or another marketplace about the new SUBTEL regulations, you're not alone. Thousands of sellers are in the same situation.
What the marketplaces are saying:
"Non-compliance with this regulation may result in warnings, fines of up to 5,000 UTM, product suspension, or greater sanctions. If the product does not have the required information, including the QR code, it will be unpublished."
This applies to all Short Range Devices (SRD): WiFi, Bluetooth, routers, wearables, IoT sensors, cameras, wireless microphones, remote controls, and more.
What Are SRD (Short Range Devices)?
SRD or Short Range Devices (known as EAR in Spanish) are devices that use short-range radio frequency. They include:
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| WiFi/Bluetooth | Headphones, speakers, keyboards, wireless mice |
| Routers and modems | Home network equipment |
| Wearables | Smartwatches, fitness trackers |
| IoT | Sensors, IP cameras, smart home devices |
| Controls | Remote controls, automatic gates |
| Audio | Wireless microphones |
| RFID | Readers and tags |
If your product has WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, or any wireless connection, it's an SRD and must comply with the regulation.
The Change: From Certification to Technical Self-Verification
SUBTEL Resolution 737 (effective February 22, 2026) replaces mandatory certification with a technical self-verification regime.
What Does This Mean?
Before (until February 21, 2026):
- All equipment needed SUBTEL certification
- Long and costly process
- Official document issued by SUBTEL
After (from February 22, 2026):
- Most equipment NO LONGER requires SUBTEL certification
- Only needs:
- A test report from an accredited laboratory
- A visible QR code with product information
- Only medical devices (MICS) maintain mandatory certification
What Does My Product Need?
Option A: Most Products (No Certification)
For WiFi, Bluetooth, routers, wearables, IoT, controls, etc.:
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| Test Report | Test report from accredited laboratory |
| QR Code | Minimum 1x1 cm, no frames, with technical information |
| Compliance page | Spanish-language website with technical and commercial data |
Option B: Wireless Medical Equipment (With Certification)
Only for MICS devices (implants, medical monitors):
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| Test Report | From accredited laboratory |
| SUBTEL Certification | Process with the Undersecretariat |
QR Code Requirements
The QR code must meet strict technical specifications:
| Requirement | Specification |
|---|---|
| Minimum size | 1 cm x 1 cm |
| Frames | NOT allowed (no decorative borders) |
| Error correction | Level H (30%) |
| Contrast | High, readable by any device |
Where Does the QR Code Go?
- Outer packaging (preferred)
- Directly on the device (if no packaging)
- Attached documentation (manual, warranty)
Important: The QR must also appear in product photos on the marketplace.
What Information Does the QR Page Need?
The QR code must link to a Spanish-language webpage with:
Commercial Information
- Publication date
- Commercial name of the equipment
- Manufacturer
- Importer or representative in Chile
- Address in Chile
- Contact email
- Website
Technical Characteristics (from Test Report)
- Equipment type
- Brand and model
- Technology (802.11, Bluetooth, etc.)
- Operating frequencies
- Antenna gain (dBi)
- Power (EIRP)
- RF modules
- Downloadable Test Report PDF
